- Bio
Ikeda Masuo explored the themes of eros and sensuality in a wide range of media as a painter, printmaker, illustrator, sculptor, ceramist, writer, and film director. Active in avant-garde art in Tokyo, Ikeda was a founding member of the Democratic Artists Association. Mentored by Ei-Q, Ikeda brought his drawing talents to colored copperplate printing, and thereafter received numerous awards in print exhibitions. A retrospective of his work was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1965, making him the first Japanese artist to have a solo show at that venue.
