Yamamoto Kōichi was born in Osaka, but has lived and studied outside of Japan since moving away at age fifteen. He received his BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and then studied copperplate printing at the Bratislava Academy of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, both in Eastern Europe. He then returned to North America to complete an MFA with the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Yamamoto has exhibited his prints in Tokyo, as well as in all the cities where he has studied. He has taught at the University of Delaware and is currently assistant professor in the School of Art, University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
