- Bio
As the eldest son of Yoshida Hiroshi and his wife Fujio, Tōshi inherited his father's commitment to printmaking. In addition to his home-schooling with Hiroshi, Tōshi attended the Taiheiyo Art School, a private Western-style painting academy, where he studied oil painting, graduating in 1935. He traveled widely, joining his father on long sojourns in Southeast Asia, Korea, and Manchuria, and then on his own to China. From 1953 onward, Tōshi participated in numerous international exhibitions and workshops, spending part of nearly every year abroad. His work encompassed animal studies, abstract designs, and landscapes of the scenery he encountered in his travels.
