- Bio
Hiratsuka, along with Onchi Kôshirô, was a pillar of the Creative Print movement. He was first to teach courses in woodblock printing at Tokyo Art School (the forerunner of Tokyo University of the Arts), breaking a long-standing barrier of prejudice against prints, and he was instrumental in nurturing a generation of Japanese print innovators. Later in life, he moved to Washington D.C., where his daughter lived, and there he influenced American printmakers as well.
